Calopteryx splendens (Harris, 1782) Banded Demoiselle. Body length 45 to 48mm
Flight season. Late April to October in the south, May to August in the north
This is our most familiar odonate along our streams and narrow rivers.
Males are metallic blue with a dark blue band across each wing, females are mainly metallic green with greenish wings.
Range and status. In numerous locations to lake Baikal and north-west China.
Habitat. Mostly small rivers (scarce on large rivers) and streams, favouring running waters but avoiding cold torrents and high mountains.
