Belonging to the SYRPHINI tribe.
A very good wasp mimic with long antennae.
Flight season… June to October.
Occurs mainly south-east of England and the midlands but has also been scarcely recorded in the Merseyside and Lancashire areas.
Habitat... A Grasslands species preferring to be close to trees and shrubs particularly on waste grounds. Can be seen visiting various wild flowers including Wild Parsnip, Goatsbeard and Wild Marjoram.
