Cylindromyia brassicaria
Cylindromyia brassicaria
Cylindromyia brassicaria (Fabricius, 1775) Family: Tachinidae
This is a cosmopolitan genus and these cylindrical flies are common in most countries.
Feeds on the nectar of flowering plants as well as honeydew.
The adult female has no ovipositor, so to be able to lay her eggs on the surface of adult Stink Bug. First, she must position herself in a way that she is able to firmly clamp onto the stink bug.
When the larvae hatch, they feed overwinter on their host. By June the following year, they bore their way out from the host before they pupate. Generally speaking this does not kill the host Stink Bug.
