Exosoma lusitanicum
Exosoma lusitanicum
Exosoma lusitanicum (Linnaeus, 1767) commonly known as the “Daffodil Leaf Beetle”
Family: Chrysomelidae
Length 6 to 8mm
A common species of beetle found in the warmer most southern countries of Europe. In the west from Portugal, in other southern countries that are mainly around the Mediterranean coastline, including North Africa.
The larvae feed on the bulb (bulbs of the Amaryllidaceae family) of the plant, where the adults mainly feed on the flowers and leaves of various plants. The adult beetle will skeletonise the flowers as well as the leaves of a plant, so if this beetle is found in large numbers, they could and will be very destructive for vineyards and certain nursery growers.
Habitat: Warm open landscapes, where their wild host plants can be found, naturally growing.
