Wingspan 28 to 30mm.
Season: June to August. (one generation)
A widespread species in south of Europe, rarer into mid Europe. Mainly found in countries around the Mediterranean; The Iberian Peninsula, southern France, Italy, Sicily, Greece and Macedonia. Also found in North Africa, although populations are very restricted here.
Habitat: Hot stony or calcareous grasslands, usually amongst scrub in the hot dry months of summer.
This species is often the only butterfly found flying in some of the very hot dry locations in summertime.
The larvae feed on Phlomis species. ( Is a genus of over 100 species of herbaceous plants and shrubs, native in the Mediterranean region).
