The female has a very broad abdomen and generally the male has a slenderer pale blue abdomen. This species is a very strong flier extending into central Asia.
Habitat Among the commonest species in much of Europe, favouring small sunny pools and quarry lakes; can also be found in sunny shallow stagnant ponds.
