Tenthredo arcuata (Forster, 1777)
Family: Tenthredinidae (Common Sawflies).
Length 9 to 11mm.
Adult season April to June, (July to August can sometimes be possible, depending on favourable climatic conditions, allowing for a second brood)
T. arcuata is a widespread and common species of sawfly, populated over most of Britain and Europe.
Habitat: Meadows, abundant in flowers (especially on Apiaceae or Umbelliferae species of plants). Adults feed on nectar and pollen, the adults can carry an extraordinary amount of pollen, they will also feed on small insects. The Sawflies larvae are mainly active at night time, primarily feeding on the leaves of white clover, (Trifolium repens) but can also be seen occasionally, feeding on other species of clover.
